Well first thing is first, the Irish cabinet have approved measures for abortion legislation. And it's not perfect but it's happening and it's better than nothing. The measures now include that where a woman is suicidal or her life is threatened she can be permitted an abortion but it will need to be signed off by her obstetrician and either one or two psychiatrists depending on the circumstances. I can imagine this being one mother of a bureaucratic nightmare but I'm hoping doctors will use common sense in their decision making process.
But the craziest part of all this is the treatment of our Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Enda Kenny. For a start I really admire that he has come out to say that he is Taoiseach who is Catholic but not a Catholic Taoiseach. That's a pretty brave statement that I didn't think he had in him. As a result the crazies are hitting him up with and I quote "medals, scapulars, plastic foetuses, letters written in blood and telephone calls".
It's not right that the craziest crazies seem to have the loudest voices.
